The Hog & Ox Roast Company and Heart of England Catering – Our Story

Hi, we’re headed by father and son team, Richard and James Farrow. Passionate about food, our joint experience and that of our team of friendly professionals ensures the best possible food and service from a family company dedicated to the success of your event.

So where did it begin? Well, in 2011, after selling our award winning hotel and wedding venue in Cornwall, we moved back to our native Midlands, moving our successful event catering side of the business with us and starting The Hog and Ox Roast Company. Our philosophy has always been never to be like everyone else, so determined to be different, we designed and had built an enormous and unique mobile oven. Shaped like an enormous pink pig, four metres long and weighing in at over a ton, it is capable of roasting three hogs at the same time – we christened it HERCULES. And we certainly got noticed!

Since then, our business and reputation has grown, Hercules is no longer mobile, we have added more bespoke ovens to our range and have clocked up well over 1800 hog, beef and lamb roasts, so we certainly know our business.  In the Midlands, we are the specialist meat roasting company and happy to provide our roasting service for all weddings, special occasions and corporate events.

We are also fortunate to be based in a sleepy rural village a few miles from Melton Mowbray and virtually in the dead centre of England. This enables us to offer our catering service not only throughout the Midlands, but also throughout Heart of England, including the Cotswolds and Northamptonshire. 

In 2019 we formed the Heart of England Catering Limited, staffed with chefs and catering professionals, bringing a full wedding, special occasion and corporate event catering service to most parts of England. At the same time, for those preferring one company to handle everything, we teamed up with one of the leading event hire companies in the Midlands and can now offer the complete package including marquee and dance floor hire, furniture, table and linen ware, equipment hire and venue dressing. In fact, everything to ensure that all our bookings are different, run like clockwork and stand out from the rest.
